Finally! Bald men rule
by Rick Struve

GUEST COLUMN: Rick Struve is the Movie Prophet. He watches a movie trailer and comments on the film before he sees it. Read this week's column on Star Trek: Nemesis....
Star Trek lands in our theaters once again, making their 9th
appearance since leaving the television behind. This time with
Star Trek: Nemesis.
Let's get this out of the way quickly: If you should ever see
a swimming pool filled with Star Trek nerds, I will be wading
in the shallow end - maybe even in the baby pool. While I didn't
watch Star Trek: The Next Generation religiously, I did
watch all the Kirk & Spock episodes a couple times each. So
I know the cast and their basic motivations, but I don't know
what size of shoes each of them wears.
To tell you the truth, I think the new movie has an excellent
trailer. It is dark and quiet, doesn't give much of the plot away,
and the bad guy gives me the creeps simply by looking into his
eyes. Something rare just happened, a trailer actually
encouraged me to see a movie I might not have seen in the theater.
The action scenes look very impressive, plenty of crashes and
mayhem on screen. Data, being one of my favorite characters from
the Next Generation series, looks to have a minor spotlight
on him as well which is fairly standard for the Next Generation
films. Hey, did I just see a sex scene involving Picard?! And
it isn't a green alien he's swapping spit with either! I know,
it probably isn't Jean Luc since the bad guy can assume Picard's
appearance. But what the heck, being a balding guy myself, I just
love seeing a fellow baldy get a little lovin' on the silver screen!
Gives me some hope.
I won't be able to give Star Trek: Nemesis my highest prediction
mainly due to all the past Star Trek movies. They are all decent
movies, but they don't have what it takes to become a blockbuster.
